type='text'>°C-ute

Over the last weeks there've been a lot of topic I'd have liked to cover, most of them being concerts.

FS3, for example, or Yuuchan's graduation concert.

But since an injury on my right hand was keeping me from typing longer texts, I didn't and I'm not going to do them now.

Instead, I'll talk about something quite the opposite of my usual topic(s).

I'm an old-school fan.

Okay, I haven't been into J-Pop for long, but still I prefer the Morning Musume of 1998 to 2005, or rather everything Hello!Project.
Give me a concert or a random clip from 1999 and you'll have me squeeing like a little kid.

Today's line-up leaves me rather cold, unless some graduated members are involved.

So that I find myself fangirling over the H!P kids catches me as rather strange.

There's no other "active" act in H!P right now that has me hooked more than Berryz and °C-ute have.

(by active, I don't include Coconuts, Melon and Country Musume, for now)

But as much as I love Berryz, I am drawn more to °C-ute, for whatever reason.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Berryz. There's no girl I don't like and I completely worship Momoko and Saki, and maybe even Miyabi and Maasa, and their songs all have me bouncing in no time except for their debut single.

Yet when °C-ute entered my view ...

They haven't yet done anything, per se. All they do is act as back-up for concerts (something I hate when it comes to Country Musume, because they deserve so much more) and cover songs.

But they do that with such an energy and such spirit that I am completely smitten whenever they appear on screen.

My absolute favorite is Megumi. She was annoying back in ZyX, but so was Airi in Aa! because I simply wasn't into the kids by then.

But after she played that bad-ass in Goto Maki's "Yokohama Shinriku", she has won a special place in my heart.

She can sing, she can dance, she has personality, a killer smile and, as the "Wonderful Hearts" Flets have made me realize, a body that betrays her age.

Seriously, she's not turning 14 for another four months ...

Personally, I think she should be the leader should Tsunku ever decide to have °C-ute release a single.

I don't really see Erika as a leader personality, and Megumi definitely has one.

But of course, there's still the second oldest °C-ute member, Maimi, my second favorite, and if there's the slightest chance that someone else but Erika will be leader, then it's Maimi.

In some aspects she seems an opposite to Megumi and I don't mean the dance/sing/smile department (even though hasn't yet filled out as well as Megumi).

Rather I'm talking about the personality.

Where Megumi seems mature and a tad more serious than her fellow members, Maimi is bright and cheerful and a typical 14-year-old, if I may say so.

Neither aspect is negative, neither Megumi's early maturity nor Maimi's sunshine personality.

I'm just pointing out my two favorite °C-ute members ... ^_^

Of course, the others deserve to be mentioned as well.

First, there's Erika, the "ugly" Cutie, just as Kei-chan has often been called the "ugly" Musume.

Okay, I admit, her teeth are a bit scary, but apart from that she's really pretty and seems to be coping well with that one not-so-pretty feature of hers.

Airi ... the star of °C-ute since she debuted with Aa! back in 2003 as the 9-year-old lead singer.

She has a great voice, even if a somewhat weak voice, by which I don't mean she can't sing. But she lacks a certain power, if you know what I mean. All Airi fans will hate me now!

Chisato ... such a cutie! Not really more to say. She hasn't yet done anything that has caught my interest except being cute. But she's damn good at that!

Saki ... to me, Saki will probably always be the cutie who "threatened" Yasuda Kei during the Sports Festival 2004, right in the beginning.

Kei's face was just priceless, even though I would have loved to see some other reaction's (Yuko, especially).

For the longest time, Mai seemed too young to be in any group, until I came across backstage pics from the H!P Selection Collection Tour 2005 ... (that sounds as if it's been going on for ages, even though it only feels like time is dragging on painfully slow) ... ever since this whole thing with Aibon started I've been saving W/Aibon pictures like mad again.

I admit, they've been a bit out of my focus these last few months, even though Aibon started out as my early favorite (just for a couple of weeks, before I discovered Mari, and then Yuko and so on, but still).

It seems I needed this Aibon incident to remember just how much I love Tsujikago.

Looking at the pictures on my harddrive, it's incredible how grown up they've become, especially over the last year.

They're both 18 now, a magical number for almost every teenager on this world.

Thinking how they've been in this business for more than five years now may seem surprising to outsiders, but it is not really surprising when you watch them perform.

That's what makes Tsujikago special.

They are pros in this business.

They can do the whole idol thing perfectly, sing, dance, act.
Everything seems to come natural to them since they grew up learning all about it.

And still, when they perform, when they are being grown-up idols, they are still Tsujikago and the smiles on their faces haven't changed at all in the last five years.

Having this happen to them now is really unbelievable.

Because, it is happening to them, not just to Aibon.
They've always been a team, that's why they joined together, graduated together, and now are DoubleYou together.

In a couple of months, I'm sure, we'll look back on these weeks and it'll be just the same as things went with Nachi and Mari.

But right now, after W's last single gave them such a push into the adult section (not XXX, of course), this forced break in their career is definitely a step back and feels like one of the greatest injustices in showbiz.

And just because it was my actual starting point for this post, I'll put up some pictures as well.

I consider myself a fan and fans love their idols.
So naturally I want UFA to watch out that nothing happens to my idols.

What have they done wrong?

Maybe they should've kept Aibon from smoking in the first place, but that's not the point.
They should've kept something like this from happening!!!

Anyway, I'm going to shut up now, because we can't do much but wait and see how UFA decides ...

H!P Sports Festival 2006

Now it official!!!

Hello!Project Sports Festival 2006 ~Hello! But it will give Atsuko the chance to prove her leadership qualities, since it should be her turn now, with her being the subleader of Kei's team these last years!

On with other news ... which might be the reason she won't be participating in the sports festival ...

In March, she'll be appearing in a theater production of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream", playing Hermia.

In case you're not familiar with that play, let me just say that it's a VERY important role ... as in one of the two female leads.

And for those who are familiar with the play ... two because I usually rank Titania lower than Helena and Hermia ^_^

So, that's the news.

As a little gift, I offer you last week's episode of the radio show Majiasa.

Usually, Yuko is one of the hosts (the other being Matsukaze Masaya) but since she's busy rehearsing for a play in Nagoya (why is everyone doing theater all of a sudden? Is it the new trend?) Kei is "pinch-hitting" for her.

It's a really cute episode, so I thought I'd share ^_^

http://s45.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0AZO1O34OJLWP3ERBBLB6YMV9F

Kouhaku's H!P medley

Maybe I shouldn't do this ... everyone's writing about it, so maybe one more would be just one too much. But this year's Kouhaku was just too amazing not to cover it, so I'm simply going with the flow and adding my thoughts ...

Actually, not about the whole show, just about the H!P medley, but you already suspected that, didn't you?

Anyway, first up : Ayaya, Ki ga Tsukeba Anata

I haven't really been a fan of this song up to now and Ayaya's performance hasn't changed that, no matter how great she was, but it's made it a little more bearable. Yet I'm wondering why Aya always gets those huge stuffed animal figures as background dancers ...

Next : DEF. DIVA, Suki sugite baka mitai

I still love this unit and the song, even though the initial hype about them has sure slowed down. But they really did a great show to a great song and they deserved being at the Kouhaku this year like no other band ... and yes, that includes current line-up Momusu.

Speaking of Momusu : next up with Love Machine ...

Yume Morning Musume

And it is not just a word.

As the first six of the graduated members emerged from the beneath the ground, Kei and Mari doing the opening uh-uh-uhs, I could feel my eyes grow wet with tears.

Being the Yuko & Kei fanatic that I am, I squeed with delight finding them right next to each other, but when the camera angle changed and Mari appeared on screen ... that was it.
The tears were flowing! Mari in all her ex-member glory, which she's too long been robbed of. There she was and I remembered just why Mari is one of my Top Four girls ^_^

Everyone was doing their best, it showed, and the performance was definitely one of the best I've seen for quite some time.

Current line-up Momusu was amazing as well, just not as amazing as old-school Momusu. I loved their costumes, especially Yossi's, but they all paled next to their senpai. The energy radiating from the graduated members was so much more vibrant than theirs.

Now I'm hoping that maybe in the future, Tsunku won't ignore most of the first four generations 99% of the time and actually do something with them. The Kouhaku just showed, once again, how much he owes them.

Haromoni News Segment

Yes, it's still keeping my mind occupied like nothing else these days ... okay, except for this year's Kouhaku, but while my mood resembles high on something whenever latter is mentioned, Haromoni's new news segment still has me worrying.

Not because it's the news segment per se. I wasn't really interested in the news back when we still had HPNews, HPH or even Maido Arii. For me, news always meant a couple of minutes with my favorite Musume on screen, which is rare to get once one of them graduates.

But news on Haromoni have always included Yuko ... until now.

Which makes me wonder ... why?

It's not that Yuko suddenly lost popularity among fans.

In fact, she's still ranked as one of the 15 most popular H!P girls in a poll spreading over various forums. #14, in fact, which may make her less popular than Ayaya, Gocchin, Nacchi or most of the current 10nin Morning Musume (except Makoto, Koharu and Sayumi), but it still makes her more popular than Nono, Kei-chan, V-u-den, and any of Berryz or Melon Kinenbi.

True, these forums are English speaking forums, but I can't believe that Yuko's charm suddenly lost any of its appeal to the Japanese fans.

So, why no news anymore?

There could be several reasons ...

1) The producers wanted to try something new. Maybe they thought fans were getting bored with the main caster never changing. If that's true, then why was Eri's last week's caster on the rollercoaster?

2) Yuko was bored of it. I can't really think of something to back this up, though, because why would she be bored of Haromoni all of a sudden? Sure, she's getting older, but that's no reason, ne?

3) She's leaving H!P. My first thought, actually, when I found out that she wouldn't be featured in the new news segment. But, seriously, if she really was leaving, wouldn't the news be plastered all over the net?

4) She's concentrating on other things right now, so less time left in her schedule. After all, she won't perform in the upcoming H!P winter concert because she's filming some tv drama at the same time, maybe they've already started filming? And remember that she's also got a concert on Dec. 23rd!

The fourth point seems to be the most plausible explanation. Maybe mix it a little with #1 and we have the result.

If that's true, then watch out, producers. This new news segment? Probably the worst ever.

Not that I don't enjoy watching Nacchi and Eri scream at the top of their lungs on the rollercoaster(s), but Eri didn't even try reading the news, and Nacchi wasn't any better.
So there was a definite lack of news in the news segment, and I'm guessing the next episode won't be any better (again, Nacchi).

Bring back Yuko as soon as she's finished filming, design a cute studio, put her in and maybe two other girls, and you'll see, the fans will love you for it!

Why not try bringing back Kei and Mari as well, while you're already at it? Do The Hussle" wouldn't be Morning Musume's 28th single, but instead Tsunku decided to take a track off their 6th album, put a spin to it and release "Chokkan 2 ~Nogashita sakana wa ookiizo~.

I dare say that the latest single of Hello!Project's flagship may be the single the most bashing has appeared about on the internet.

But why?

I must admit, I wasn't too overwhelmed by the concert rip of "Koi wa Hassou", so I was looking forward towards Momusu's new single with little anticipation. Yet with time, the song grew on me and couldn't wait for it's official release.

And then the news hit about "Chokkan 2" and I was completely baffled. I still remember the comment I left on the LiveJournal community from which I had gotten the news.

"I'm happy as long as we get Koi wa Hassou in some way. But if this is true, it makes me wonder. A remake of Chokkan? I like that song, a lot, but why a remake? Either make it the original song or a new one, otherwise people might think you're running out of ideas!"

Which is, now that I think about it, only half-true.

Sure, no one really knows why Tsunku decided to make a remake. Maybe he really is running out of ideas.

But maybe he just saw the potential Chokkan could have with the current line-up of Morning Musume, with Kaori, Rika and Mari gone and the 7th generation bringing fresh life into the group.

When I listen to the original song, Chokkan ~Toki toshite koi wa~, there are several things I notice which are different in Chokkan 2 ~Nogashita sakana wa ookiizo~.

Of course the lyrics are different, but that's not really what catches my eye, or rather, my ear. Because, seriously, most H!P songs don't feature deep lyrics and Chokkan 1/Chokkan 2 are no exceptions.

Instead, Chokkan 1 appears to be more 'whole', more a group song than Chokkan 2.

For example, let's take a look at the first refrain:

In Chokkan 1, it's sung by all members.
In Chokkan 2, though, we have one of the new "subgroups" (Mini Moni version 3, Risa, Konno, Sayumi, Koharu) singing the refrain, while "Tanpopo version 4" (Miki, Eri, Ai-chan) sings the new, added chorus ("oshitari hiitari shitenaide ... etc.").

And while in Chokkan 1, Tsunku did the 'souda souda' grunting in the background, in Chokkan 2 it seems to be done by "Pucchi Moni version 4" (Yossi, Makoto, Reina), even though my ears keep failing me when I try to hear the girls over Tsunku's still obviously existing grunting.

In Chokkan 1, all members with the exception of Mari got one single solo line (not counting the duet lines, of course). Mari got two, btw ^_^
In Chokkan 2, only six of the ten members get solo lines (again, not counting the duet lines). Reina, Eri, Koharu, Sayumi, Miki and Ai-chan.

So, what happened to Risa, Yossi, Makoto and Konno? Why didn't Tsunku give them lines beyong those they sing together with other members?

I don't think it's got anything to do with popularity, because even though Makoto seems to be the least popular member among fans, Konno is one of the favorites.

So, what other reason could there be? Vocal ability? No, that's a definite no, because, they can sing, all four of them, even though some might argue that Risa and Konno can't but that's just a small amount of fans. Also, to be honest, Sayumi is one of the weakest, vocally speaking, yet she got a solo line.

So why?

I have no idea.

The rest of the song is divided between the three subgroups and the only part that features all members singing together is the last refrain, sung twice.

Looking at this, it's clear that Chokkan was at first never intended to be a single. All recent Morning Musume singles were heavily divided into solo lines, similar to Chokkan 2, and since Chokkan 1 isn't, it is the only conclusion.

Yet, as already mentioned, Tsunku must have seen the great potential Chokkan held, otherwise he never would have pulled it out of the dark now, brushing it up and releasing it as a single.

And looking at the Oricon charts, it definitely wasn't a bad decision. It turned out as #3, which is still, even with the miserable numbers of singles actually sold, still a good enough position.

That Chokkan 2 is the lowest selling Momusu single ever is another point. During the first week, only 43,535 copies were sold. To show how low these figures actually are, here are the first week sales of other singles:

Morning Coffee = 95,060 (first actual single)
Daite! Hold On Me = 183,500 (first #1)
Love Machine = 241,540 (best-selling single overall)
Koi no Dance Site = 600,860 (best-selling single during the first week)
Renai Revolution 21 = 515,490 (last high-selling single)

After RR21, the sales have constantly dropped, until Morning Musume no Hyokkori Hyoutanjima marked the point of selling below 100,000 in the first week (72,594).

But I don't want to write about the declining sales, even though it is obvious, and in my opinion, Morning Musume lost lots of its charm and competitive spirit when Yuko graduated, and maybe, if you know that RR21 was her last single, you will agree with me.

Yet where does that put Chokkan 2 ~Nogashita sakana wa ookiizo~?

No matter how bad it sells, no matter how much bashing has appeared on the internet, lots of people have still reacted positivly.

It is, after all, a great song. It already was back on Ai no dai 6 kan with the old line-up and it is now as a single with the new line-up.

Let's just hope that Tsunku won't pull something like that again on us.

The reaction might not be as positive the next time.

56th Kouhaku & My favorite segment and I still have no clue how to spell it properly.

We start off with some banter between Sayumi and Yuko. Guess who the first prize would
go to if there was a prize for most heard word(s) around the studio? Yuuchan!!! What
words? "Are you playing around?" Great impersonation, Sayu!!!

Then Eri shows up, almost making me fall of my chair with laughter when her first words
are "It's been nearly 5 years of me playing around with Nakazawa".

Yet her next words are met with confusion? "This is the last of these stupid stupid talks ..."
Huh??? Eri??? WTF??? Sadly, she doesn't explain herself.

We move on to the presentation of the new H!P items, which are 1) Berryz Koubou's new concert photo book "Switch On" and 2) the single to the internet drama "Takaramono" by Sen (Sen's idenity will not be revealed).

This week's guest is Abe Natsumi, who stars in Takaramono. So, what was it about not revealing Sen's real identity? I mean, everyone knows Nacchi's Sen, so, huh???

Anyway, now the fun part begins. First off, Yuko accuses Nacchi of invading one of her dreams recently, but it seems she is not the only one. I can only say, Kei-chan with a crewcut! *lol*

Eri announces this week's game ... tada ... Hit and Cover Janken Pyon!

Basically, two people do Janken Pyon and the one who wins has to grab a hammer and pound away on their opponent while the loser has to grab a helmet and try to put it on, covering themselves against the blows.

First round: Sayumi vs. Nacchi, which Sayu loses, but they have a revenge, because Sayu accidently grabs the hammer instead of the helmet. This time, Nacchi is the loser!

Second round: Yuko vs. Eri, which Eri totally loses and Yuko is merciless ^_^

After then it's time for saying goodbye. The last day that Eri can meet with Yuko and Sayu. They take it rather well, though.

For the last time, they all dance together.

Eri bows deeply to the camera ... she's fine with her first segment coming to an end, it seems.

Which makes me think ... she's far too happy about it, ne? Maybe they're just sort of pimping it up, turning Maido Arii into a better, even more fun Maido Arii #2?

Anyway, no matter what next Sunday will bring, Maido Arii will always be one of the best segments ever on Haromoni, right up there with the karaoke battles and 'Save the princess', back when H!M didn't suck most of the time.

I'll miss it because it made me warm up to Sayumi, because I couldn't stand her at all at first, and now she's at least bearable, and even cute most of the time!!!

I'll miss it because it had the greatest guests every week (DEF. DIVA anyone?) and not just some crappy magician.

I'll miss it because it gave me a chance to stare at Yuko every week for a few minutes, because she is, after all, my favorite Hello!Project member and damn hot on top of that.

And I'll miss it because we got to see Eri mature and become more self-confident. I just recently watched the 'Crap girl' contest and it was a pain how shy she was back then!

Maido Arii, arigatou gozaimashita!!!

Introduction

Konnichi wa, minna-san!

So, this is it, Ai no tane, my personal J-Pop rambling and fangirling blog.
I have been thinking about this for quite some time now, because over at Livejournal.com, where I have my personal RL journal, most of my friends don't care about J-Pop at all, so it's not really easy to cheer for your favorite H!P girl and everybody's going 'whatever'.

This is what Ai no tane is for, helping me keeping my friends and myself happy without neglecting my obsession for everything Japanese, especially music.

And since this is the introduction post, maybe I should introduce myself to you?

My name is Freya, yet feel free to call me Sam or Saachan as well ^_^

I'm 19, German, a typical girl overall and obsessed with everything Hello!Project (Yuko, Kei, Mari, Nacchi in particular) and some other J-Pop as well!

Well, I guess that's it, ne?
